A letter from Jane Bunn,
Chair of Stewardship Committee, Sep 2011
Dear
Friends,
There’s a
chill in the air, families are back in their busy school schedules and before
we know it, we’ll be in the holiday celebration season. At St. Peter and St. Paul, we have a lot to
celebrate now—our membership rolls
are growing, weekly worship attendance continues to top past years, children
and youth programs are bustling and you continue to be faithful in your time, talent
and treasure support.
We kicked our stewardship canvas for 2012 on Sunday, September 25th. We will retire the loan on our building very
soon because of your sacrificial giving over the last three years, in spite of
the economic challenges we have all felt.
What does stewardship mean to you?
It’s a personal thing between you and God. We have an amazing opportunity this year to
ask and answer the question, “What is God asking us to do next?”
Many of you
heard Bishop Wimberly’s sermon on August 8th about Fear and
Faith. I was touched by his words that
day and recently listened again on the website. He said that we learn faith by
“doing faith” and that Jesus comes to us in the storms of our lives to deliver
us. Regardless of how the winds are
blowing, He is there for each of us.
Jesus asked Peter to “step out of
the boat.” I believe He is asking
each of us to do the same as we will now have the financial “freedom to grow in
Christ.” I recently had the profound
honor of hearing Deputy Chief Jay Jonas, New York City Fire Department, tell of
his experience in the North Tower on September 11, 2001. He simply said that “there were people who
needed help, and that is what he and his men were going to do.” As a parish, we know the same thing, and the
opportunity is ours.
Sunday,
October 30th will be Commitment Sunday for 2012. I ask you to join me in thoughtful prayer, be
still and listen as God tells us what is next for St. Peter and St. Paul. Make your personal commitment to Him and “STEP OUT OF THE BOAT AND STEP FORWARD IN
FAITH!”
Sincerely,
Jane Bunn

"So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of
necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:7).

Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:4-5

Contributions Made Easy With Electronic Giving
Save time, simplify your life, and support St. Peter and St. Paul! We’re keeping up with the times by now offering you a new way to help our ministry. Our new Electronic Giving program is an automated program that will allow you to make contributions without having to lift a pen to write a check or reach into your wallet for cash! This new giving option will work in the same manner as mortgages, loan payments, or insurance premiums that are automatically withdrawn from your bank accounts.
Here is how it works: You authorize a specified amount of money to be electronically transferred directly on a regular basis from your checking or savings account to the parish account. Your authorization can be made for pledges to our operating fund or our capital campaign or to specific amounts for both. You also specify the frequency of the transfer, which can be weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly.
It is fast, safe and easy! In fact, it is less risky than checks, as it cannot be lost, stolen, or destroyed. The electronic transfer will cost you NOTHING and you save the cost of the check. As with traditional giving, St. Peter and St. Paul will issue you periodic contribution statements for your tax records, and your bank statements will provide you with a record of transfer as additional proof of your contributions. Donations via electronic transfer can be made to our general operating fund or our capital campaign fund.
Of course you can cancel your authorization of transfer at any time by notifying us in writing. But we believe that once you have enjoyed the convenience and savings of this new program, you won’t want to go back to the “old-fashioned” way of contributing to your church!
Electronic giving yields very significant benefits for you: the satisfaction of giving to God first, easier to fulfill stewardship commitments, and allowing you to give even when you are away. Our parish benefits from more predictable cash flow and less work for our staff.
To enroll, simply complete our parish electronic giving authorization form and return it to our parish office. It’s that easy!
