Organist Isaac Brunson is a 2007 graduate of the University of Michigan with a doctorate in Church Music / Organ Performance. Previous study includes a bachelor's degree in piano from Coker College of Hartsville, South Carolina, graduate teacher certification and a master's in voice performance from Winthrop University of Rock Hill, South Carolina. In addition to his organ skills, Dr. Brunson also has extensive knowledge and training in the field of voice, choral conducting, music education, and music performance. He is a licensed music educator (Choral/K-12) who has taught voice and choral music in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Having studied voice and sung major vocal literature for more than twenty years also enables Isaac to be equally at ease performing major vocal recitals as well as organ recitals. The organist has also trained and conducted choirs for more than twenty years in Michigan, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. He has served as University Organist and Director of Choral Activities at Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina. As an organist, Dr. Brunson performed in recitals in Paris, France (2002), Livonia, Michigan, Detroit, Michigan, and Ann Arbor, Michigan. His organ teachers include Kenneth Wilmot (Coker College), Marilyn Mason, Robert Glascow, James Kibbie (University of Michigan), and Timothy Albrecht (Emory University). His voice teachers include James Samuels, Joseph Jackson (Coker College), Kaye Irmiter and Jerry Helton (Winthrop University), and George Shirley (University of Michigan). Isaac is a native of Sumter, South Carolina from a family of sixteen children born to the late Lucius and Louise Brunson. His gift of music has afforded him the opportunity to be the first in his family to attend and graduate college. His educational success and endeavors have been a source of inspiration for his immediate siblings and nieces and nephews. |
