Call to Prayer

Lord, teach us to pray. Luke 11:1

ree

Dear Friends in Christ,

Jesus' disciples asked him "Lord, teach us to pray." Jesus' response is what we call "The Lord's Prayer." This is a prayer that covers the basics: glorifying God, asking for our basic needs, asking forgiveness (and reminding us to forgive others), and asking for saving "from the time of trial" when our faith is challenged and we may be tempted to waver.

Perhaps we would do well also to remember the basic assumption in the whole scene: that when we do not know how to talk with God, we can ask God for help. And the Holy Spirit will help us to pray, to bring ourselves before God, and to open our hearts and minds to hear God's voice speaking to each of us personally.

The same God that is Lord of heaven and earth is also close to us, and calls us closer. How is God teaching you to pray this summer?

Yours in Christ,

Tom
