Cultivating strength and hope with God

Create in me a clean heart, O God,  And renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

Dear Friends in Christ,

I wonder if we’re getting used to bad news. Each day, it seems like the pervasive contempt and pride and sheer blasphemy of the world around us is relentless and stifling. Have we become immune to the shock of it all? How do we avoid absorbing all that poison we swim in?

To embody a different way of dealing with the world, we spend less time immersed in the attitudes of the world, and more time living intentionally close to God. We read about Jesus, we pray and listen for God’s voice, we seek to recognize the Holy Spirit at work in our lives, we treat others the way God loves, formed and shaped by God’s virtues. Respect and honor. Integrity and humility. True courage and true justice. Responsibility and accountability. All virtues that come not from human endeavor, but from God himself who guides us and calls us closer to him with these virtues as patterns of our relating and living. The more each of us stands strong in this kind of godliness, the more strength and health and hope we embody and bring to those around us.

How will you spend time with God each day, to press away the darkness and nurture the light of Christ?

Yours in Christ,

-Tom
