Intentional Ministry

…from [Christ] the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. Ephesians 4:16

Dear Friends in Christ,

As Christians, with intentionality, every aspect of our day can be lived in God’s presence and seen through God’s eyes. We sometimes forget about the power of ordinary living. However, we also sometimes forget about the power of shared living and shared ministry. Sometimes Christian living is seen as a private, interior experience hidden from view. We do take time in private to focus on prayer, but God also calls us together and empowers us for ministry together.

How, then, can we be intentional about taking action together? This is the heart of the organizing that we do as a church. Institutional life gets a cynical review in our culture, but at our best, we are organizing so that we can be more effective individually and together. It’s the difference between a soccer game with no ref and no boundary lines, vs. well-organized teams pursuing excellence. If no one leads ministries, and if others don’t show up to participate, then our common life fizzles. If, however, people step up to lead, with eyes clearly on our mission, and if brothers and sisters in Christ step forward to participate and invite others in, and if we work well together, then we thrive together, God is glorified, and the community around us is blessed.

How are you intentionally supporting the ministry of this church? Each of you have different gifts to offer. What is your role in growing disciples of Jesus Christ? How can you intentionally pursue this mission with us together?

Yours in Christ,

-Tom
